As Regional Director for Africa Abah Ofon brings over 26 years of global experience in financial markets and agribusiness to Farrelly Mitchell’s strategic advisory services. As a recognised thought leader in agricultural commodities and macroeconomic fundamentals, Abah has experience in agricultural value chains, institutional capacity building, trade flows, and economic development across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Before joining Farrelly Mitchell, Abah served as Director of Agriculture Research at Standard Chartered Bank, based in London, Dubai, and Singapore, where he advised some of the world’s largest agribusinesses, institutional investors, hedge funds, and central banks. His insights and expertise have been widely sought after, and he was notably profiled by the UK’s Financial Times during the 2009 global food crisis. Over two decades ago, Abah correctly forecast the importance of Africa’s relations with China and was invited to discuss his publication by a UK Parliament Select Committee.
Abah has an accomplished track record advising clients in both public and private sectors, ranging from proprietary trading houses to multilateral institutions, on strategy, investment, and policy development. In recent years, he helped develop the Export Advisory business at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), a top-tier multilateral DFI headquartered in Egypt.
At Afreximbank, he specialised in sovereign and quasi-sovereign advisory services, supporting numerous agribusiness industrialisation and economic transformation initiatives throughout Africa. His work involved collaborating with key partners including the World Trade Organization, United Nations agencies, and the African Union.
An alumnus of the London School of Economics, Abah is a licensed financial advisor under the Monetary Authority of Singapore and he is a long-standing member of the United Kingdom Society of Business Economists. His unique combination of financial, policy, and agribusiness expertise allows him to deliver high-impact, practical solutions on food and agribusiness projects throughout Africa.
