G20 to hear of waste urgency for global food supply chains

Pandemic accelerates drive for solutions

The threat of coronavirus to global food supply chains has sharpened the focus of political, agriculture and food interests worldwide. Leaders will share their strategies and recommendations towards the goal of prevention and monitoring food waste.

Food waste prevention is one of the pillars of a fully functioning, secure and resilient food system. However, as AlHumaid will demonstrate, there are complexities that prevent food loss and waste strategies from succeeding.

These are frequently found in infrastructure and logistics processes. The presentation will also explore the solutions to current wastage.

The workshop is part of the Thunen Institute’s “National Food Loss and Waste Prevention Strategies and Monitoring approaches – an interdisciplinary challenge for decision-makers, researchers and practice“ series. The series is in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia and United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
